Church refuses to marry black couple
A black couple couldn't get married in the Mississippi church they attended because they are black. This additionally confirms what one of my friends told me: that rampant racism still exists in the South. That friend, now a professor in Chicago, went to graduate school down south, where she witnessed racism that sickened her so much she eagerly left and vowed to never return.
All southern people certainly are not racists, but the prevalence of racism is definitely higher in the south, according to my friend, who added that some folks in that area are still fighting the Civil War.
